You are a British soldier in a World War I trench alongside your brother, Stanley, and another soldier called Ralph. After getting to know each other and hearing stories from the front line, a lantern explodes, your position is revealed, and you take fire from the enemy side. Suffering from shell shock, your journey begins as you traverse history through the prism of family during wartime.
The inspiration for Three Lights comes from wanting to bring history to life by placing people directly into stories as active participants. In this way we bring unique excitement and facilitate understanding and empathy.
Three Lights is an interactive, virtual reality experience about family during World War I. It stars Matthew Needham as Stanley, best known for his appearances as Lord Larys in HBO’s House of the Dragon and Mr Drummel in the BBC’s recent adaptation of Great Expectations.
Three Lights will launch as part of ‘StoryFutures Xperience’, which will showcase VR experiences in leading independent cinemas, arts centres and libraries across the UK from Summer 2023 - Spring 2024. Venues including Chapter, Cardiff; Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre, Dundee; Queens Film Theatre, Belfast; Showroom Cinema, Sheffield and Depot, Lewes will receive specialist equipment and training from the StoryFutures team for audiences to enjoy a range of VR experiences, thanks to the support of the BFI, awarding National Lottery funding.
